Join us for an informative course about owning and caring for dairy cattle on your homestead and/or chickens in your backyard. All are welcome: hopeful farmers, beginners, and those more experienced. Please bring your questions! Instructors Jay and Michelle Lancaster have an extensive background in dairy farming, cheesemaking and homesteading.
The topics to be covered include:
- animal selection,
- basic equipment,
- buildings/structures and land requirements,
- organic-focused management (nutrition and breeding), milk/egg handling and processing,
- estimated costs.
Pre-registration for the class is required. $9 registration fee per person includes detailed handouts, light farm-fresh snacks, and a store coupon.
Instructors are available to stay after class for further discussion.
